Rise Up Masquerade Benefit Show with Larry & His Flask and Mosley Wotta
Hey people, this is how to throw a party – you get two of Bend’s most well-known acts in the form of the raucous hillbilly jamboree that is Larry & His Flask and the loveable hip-hop hero Mosley Wotta. And it’s also a charity fundraiser for the creative folks at Rise Up who don’t just make great clothes, but also help save the world. In addition to the masquerade theme of the benefit, there’s also live body painting by award winning tattoo artist Michael Toth and the PoetHouse Artist Collective. $5. 7pm. Boondock’s Bar and Grill, 70 NW Newport Ave.

Please visit pasteyourface to see the full gallery of this very cool project.
{A description of the site}: I’ve always thought it was strange to see large images of celebrities, models and news anchors on walls, billboards, and buses. I’ve wondered why these people are adorning our walls and public spaces instead of the individuals that make up our community. This project serves as a physical representation of the city of Portland through drawings of it’s inhabitants.
Everyone pictured is completely unknowing and chosen at random. Whether your reaction is positive or negative, please let me know by clicking the “Submit” button at the top of the page or emailing me at pasteyoface@gmail.com. I’d like to hear your initial reaction, as well as what you think now that you know what this is all about.
I’m sorry or you’re welcome, depending on how you feel about this.

By Andrea Nill on May 18th, 2010 at 1:50 pm – Think Progress
Yesterday, dozens gathered in front of the Staples Center in Los Angeles before the L.A. Lakers-Phoenix Suns game to protest Lakers coach Phil Jackson’s tacit endorsement of Arizona’s new immigration law, SB-1070. In the past, Coach Jackson has said, “I support those who stand up for their beliefs. It is what makes this country great.” In reference to the anti-immigrant Arizona law, however, he staked a less courageous stand, telling the press, “I don’t think teams should get involved in the political stuff.”
Jackson’s advice didn’t stop the part-Latina wife of Lakers star, Kobe Bryant, from making her opinion known. ProBasketballTalk reports:
Vanessa Bryant is part Hispanic and she wore a shirt that said, “Do I look illegal?” to the game.
The reference was clear.
She — and often the couple’s daughters — are regulars at Lakers games. They tend to stay out of the limelight, as much as that is possible for a high-profile family. But she gets noticed, and used that to make a statement at Game 1 against Arizona.
Below is a picture of Bryant’s shirt that she wore to the game:

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has sent a letter to Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon jokingly proposing that if the Lakers lost, Los Angeles would accept anti-immigrant Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County. “Perhaps a stint in Los Angeles would teach him that you cannot deduce immigration status simply by looking at a person,” said Villaraigosa.
The Latina wife of San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker and Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria Parker, has chosen to express her opposition to Arizona immigration law via Twitter. In one tweet she wrote, “Well sad to say Spurs lost to Suns. Another reason to be mad at AZ.”

Rise Up Clothing has created a thought provoking tee shirt titled “Do I look Illegal.” This shirt is a great “ice breaker” to engage friends and your community about the issues. Click to see the Men’s Tee & Women’s Tee. Much thanks to Vanessa Bryant, (wife of Lakers super-star Kobe) who helped support our awareness campaign by wearing the “Do I look Illegal” shirt to game one of the Lakers playoff series against the Phoenix Suns.
